• Stator: The stator’s constant rotating action causes friction to some extent. This leads to wear and tear over time. The frequency at which corrosive and abrasive fluids, harsh chemicals, and semi-solid materials are transferred through the pump also affects the need for part replacement. All the elastomers used in the progressive cavity pump stators have an excellent chemical resistance, and a vast operating temperature range up to 350 °F.
• Rotor: The spindle-shaped rotor can be made out various grades of stainless steel. While it may be advisable to replace the rotor and the stator at the same time, the rotor does not wear out as fast as the stator. However, if you deal with semi-solid fluids, then it is recommended to change both the rotor and stator in one go. This is because if the rotor wears out, it could cause leakage of some solid particles in the fluid, which may further wear out the stator.
• Bearings: Deep-groove ball bearings are commonly used in pumps. They handle the radial and axial loads and reduce rotational friction. These bearings are immersed in the fluid and allow the rotor to roll within the inner surface.
• Gaskets: This is an important component—a mechanical seal— since it helps prevent leakage. It acts as a sealant between two surfaces in a pump.
• O-Rings: An O-ring is an elastomer loop with a round cross section. This is also a kind of gasket, placed in the pump in a compressed manner to seal two opposite surfaces. These are required to seal the stator.
